What now is "Ancient" Corinth was the "original" City of Corinth, founded in the 10th Century BC.  Apostle Paul was here and was up against the rich unruly peoples from Italy, Greece, Syria, Egyptian and Judea that populated Corinth. Due to it's location, enormous personal wealth was had by the ruling class. Corinth was known as an especially "wild" city. The word for fornication, "korinthiaizom"  was named after this city.
