Natural Wonders of Greece

There are many beautiful places in the world, however, Greece seems to have more than her share. Plan a vacation to Greece and her islands for a breathtaking time-of-your-life.

A trip to Strofylia will have you in the midst of a magnificent forest of 100 to 200 year old pine trees.

How about a reeeeallly old forest? Yes, a petrified Forest in Greece. This is one of the UNESCO Global Geoparks since 2004.  There is no larger other than the Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona, USA. So here you can spend your time looking at the 20 million year old fossilized remains of tree trunks. You'll find these in the western villages of Eressos and Antissa in western Lesbos. Actually, the entire island of Lesbos has been incorporated  as a Geopark since 2012. 

How about experiencing the most important wetlands of  Europe?  Find the richest fish producing waters in Greece between the Acheloos and Evinos rivers.  Here you will be able to see the second largest lagoon in the Mediterranean.

Visit the bird's paradise of Vistonida. Two hundred and sixty species of  birds ave been observed there so it is a wondrous place for photographers and bird watchers.  

And of course for you mountaineer types there is My Olympus not only the mythical home of the 12 Greek Gods, but it was the very first area to be named a National Park . Now it is a UNESCO 'Biosphere Reserve".  It's also one of the most magnificent bird areas. 

Can you imagine 13 underground  lakes situated on many levels over a total area of 1,980 meters? Well, think exploring the Lake Cave in Kalavrita-Peloponneses which is definitely one of the world's most unique natural wonders.  You'll see stalactites, stalagmites and ornate walls..
