Fira is Santorini’s capital. Your first glimpse from the ship is a town that looks like a floating white cloud on top of a cliff. This is the bustling port town of Fira, made up of shops, restaurants, creperies, and white painted houses in stepped streets with blue domed churches and sun-bathed verandas. You will see amazing views of the Santorini “Caldera” from many of the little walkways as Fira is built on the edge of a 780’ (260 meters) high cliff. A part of Fira was destroyed by the 1956 earthquake and only a small part of the 18th century buildings were saved.
